This is a listing of Wilson families in and around Wigan but principally it is Wilson families orginating in the Eccleston, Wrightington, Parbold area. The list of familes the Wilson's married into is long, you can check if one of your family names is connected by using the "filtered by spouse" below. I have listed all the names found on this site (so far).
Using the menu opposite you can go to pages that will let you search for “your Wilson”. There are birth, marriage and death records and other images of Wilson families as well as transcripts, family trees and links to other sites. To get back to this page click “Wilson” in the title above.
The name Wilson appears to have been first used in the North West of England, which means the name Wilson is very common across Lancashire. Naming conventions also meant the reuse of given names over and over again, finding a paricular "John" was always going to be tricky. One way around that was to find them all. Which is why I started this database, to make it easier to track my own family line.
The information in this database has been gleaned from many sources; IGI, Ancestry, The Genealogist, Lancs, Cheshire and other FHS and Parish Registers, TNA and numerous genealogy websites. I would like to thank all these and all the indiviudal Wilson researchers for helping to make the site.
